Initially, medical professionals responded to the illnesses they were seeing in homosexual individuals by searching for a deeper cause. They conducted research and shared their data with the world in an effort to better understand and address the illnesses. Some medical professionals also focused on treating the symptoms of these illnesses to provide relief to patients. However, there were also cases where medical professionals did not respond at all, either due to lack of awareness or stigma surrounding homosexuality.
