The Mother's reaction to the traffic jam is anxious and worried about the kids. When sitting in the car the mother says, The mother drew herself up. '“We’ll have to get something to eat,” she said and called over to her husband standing in the road, “Can’t you get some food for the children?”' (Desai 479-480). This explains that she is worried about the children and wants them to be fed. Also when sitting in the car the mother states, "'Suddenly the mother wailed, “We’ll be here all night,” and the baby woke crying: it had had enough of being confined in the suffocating heat; it wanted air, it wanted escape."' (Desai 479). This proves that the mother is worried that the children will suffer from heat stroke. I think this also proves that she cares and is worried that the children won't be comfortable and overheat while sitting in the car.

The mother's response to the traffic jam is filled with anxiety and concern for the well-being of her children. As they sat in the car, she expressed her worries by saying, "We need to find something for the kids to eat," and she asked her husband to get food for them (Desai 479-480). This shows that she is worried about the children being hungry. Additionally, she exclaimed, "We may be stuck here all night," while the baby cried from the heat and confinement, showing her fear that the children might suffer from the stifling conditions (Desai 479). This reveals her deep concern for the children's comfort and safety.
