Transverse waves are a type of wave in which the particles of the medium move perpendicular to the direction of the wave propagation. This means that the oscillations of the particles are at right angles to the direction in which the wave is moving. Examples of transverse waves include electromagnetic waves, such as light and radio waves, as well as seismic S-waves.
