And she's been lighting up movie screens since 2012. But this time she wasn't on a stage or red carpet. She was in a popup shop in Paris. Why? She was rocking the fashion world with the launch of Fenty. That's her new line of luxury clothing.
This was a history-making moment. Rihanna became the first black woman to lead a top fashion house in Paris. At 31 years old, she's bringing her young, daring ideas to high fashion. The Instagram queen is also bringing her social media smarts.
But Rihanna isn't just the face of Fenty. She's the heart and soul of the business, too. That's why it's named after the star, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty.
Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born in the tiny island nation of Barbados in 1988. She didn't have an easy childhood. To escape her troubles, she turned to music.
When Rihanna was just 15, a music producer who was visiting Barbados heard her sing. He said she should move to the United States. There, he helped her record some songs. Those songs led to Rihanna trying out for Def Jam Recordings in New York City. Her singing wowed the head of the music company. You just might have heard of him. He's rap legend Jay-Z! He had Rihanna sign a deal on the spot.
At 17, Rihanna dropped her first single. It reached No. 2 on the charts. A star was born! Then Rihanna continued to "shine bright like a diamond," making hit after hit.
The singer has had hits as a businesswoman, too. Her cosmetics company, Fenty Beauty, was launched in 2017. It sells makeup for a wide range of skin colors.
