One achievement of Jimmy Carter during his time as president was the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, known as the Camp David Accords. This historic agreement was signed in 1978, mediated by Carter at the Camp David retreat in Maryland. It marked the first peace treaty between Israel and an Arab country, and led to the normalization of relations between the two countries. For his efforts in brokering the peace agreement, Jimmy Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
