What is Ellis island?

Ellis Island is a small island located in New York Harbor, near the Statue of Liberty. It served as the main entry point for European immigrants coming to the United States between 1892 and 1954. During this time, over 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island, where they underwent medical examination and legal inspection before being allowed to enter the country. Ellis Island is now a museum and a National Park, preserving the history of immigration to the United States.
