The legend of the Greenbrier Ghost is about a woman named Elva Zona Heaster, who was found dead in her home in Greenbrier County, West Virginia. Her husband, Edward, claimed she died of natural causes, but Elva's mother, Mary Jane Heaster, believed Edward had murdered her daughter. Mary Jane kept praying for justice, and one night, Elva's ghost appeared to her and told her that Edward had killed her by breaking her neck. Mary Jane went to the authorities with this information, and Edward was arrested, tried, and found guilty of murder.
