Spain tried to defend and spread Catholicism by creating missions in other countries to try and convert people to the Catholic faith. At home, they built churches and schools to teach people about Catholicism. They also used force to fight against people who did not believe in Catholicism, such as the Spanish Inquisition. They believed it was their duty to spread the Catholic faith to as many people as possible.
