Animals that feed on insect larvae that live inside of trees have special adaptations to locate and retrieve the insect larva. One such animal, the lemur, has a finger that is long and thin to find the insect larva inside the tree. The lemur uses its' finger to tap on a tree limb until it hears an hollow sound. When it hears a hollow sound, it will tear open the bark to find where the insect larva is tunnelling inside the tree. The lemur then uses its long, thin finger to reach the insect larvae and remove it.
