The community's reaction to the integration of Little Rock Central High School by the Little Rock nine, nine African American students, was largely negative and hostile. Many white residents of Little Rock, Arkansas, opposed the integration and expressed their anger and hatred towards the nine black students attempting to enroll in the previously all-white school. There were protests, violent incidents, and constant intimidation directed towards the students, making their integration process incredibly difficult and traumatic. Despite the backlash, the Little Rock nine remained strong and eventually successfully integrated the school with the help of federal troops.
