Syntax

Select the word that means a large, impressive building.

A visitor to New York City who admires an iconic edifice such as the Empire State Building is probably oblivious to the fact that Native American steelworkers helped build it. More than a century ago, Mohawk laborers from Kahnawake, a reservation east of Montreal, began working on steel bridges and other construction projects. The pay was good, so many young men began commuting to New York City from Canadian reservations. Many people don't know that hundreds of Mohawk steelworkers have worked high above the city on beams of steel. Still today, about ten percent of New York's two thousand steelworkers are Mohawk, many of them fourth-generation.
