During the exchange of air in your lungs oxygen is being taken into your bloodstream

and carbon dioxide is being released from your bloodstream into your lungs to be exhaled out of the body. This process, known as gas exchange, occurs in the tiny air sacs in the lungs called alveoli. The oxygen-rich blood is then carried to the body's tissues and organs, where it is used for cellular respiration to produce energy. Carbon dioxide, a waste product of this process, is then transported back to the lungs to be exhaled. This continuous exchange of gases is essential for the body to function properly and maintain homeostasis.
