UNIT 3

Writing a Research Paper
LESSON 6
Drafting the Body and Conclusion

In this lesson, we will focus on drafting the body and conclusion of your research paper. The body of your research paper should contain the main points and arguments that support your thesis statement. Each main point should be supported by evidence such as facts, statistics, examples, or quotes from credible sources.

To draft the body of your research paper, follow these steps:

1. Outline your main points: Start by organizing your main points in a logical order. Each main point should be a separate paragraph in the body of your paper.

2. Provide evidence: For each main point, provide evidence to support your argument. This could include data, quotes from experts, examples, or case studies.

3. Analyze the evidence: After presenting the evidence, analyze it to show how it supports your argument. Explain why this evidence is important and how it relates to your thesis statement.

4. Use transitions: Use transitions to connect each main point and paragraph in your paper. This will help your paper flow smoothly and make it easier for readers to follow your argument.

After drafting the body of your research paper, you should also write a conclusion to wrap up your paper and reinforce your thesis statement. The conclusion should not introduce any new information but should summarize your main points and restate your thesis statement in a fresh way.

To draft the conclusion of your research paper, follow these steps:

1. Summarize your main points: Review your main points and briefly summarize them in the conclusion. This will remind your readers of the key arguments you have made in your paper.

2. Restate your thesis: Restate your thesis statement in a new way that shows the reader the significance of your argument. This will help reinforce the main idea of your paper.

3. Leave a lasting impression: End your conclusion with a strong statement that leaves a lasting impression on your reader. This could be a call to action, a thought-provoking question, or a prediction about the future implications of your research.

By following these steps, you can draft a compelling body and conclusion for your research paper that effectively supports your thesis statement and leaves a lasting impression on your reader. Remember to revise and edit your draft to ensure it is clear, concise and well-organized before submitting your final paper.
