Peter the Great visited Western Europe in order to learn about new technologies, military tactics, and governmental structures that could help modernize and strengthen Russia. He also sought to establish diplomatic relations with other European powers and develop alliances that could benefit Russia in international affairs. Additionally, Peter was interested in gaining knowledge and exposure to the culture, arts, and sciences of Western Europe in order to bring back new ideas and innovations to Russia.
