Centralia coal fire

The Centralia coal fire is a coal seam fire that has been burning under the borough of Centralia, Pennsylvania, United States since at least May 27, 1962. The fire has been burning for over 60 years and has caused the abandonment of the town due to concerns about air quality and safety. Efforts to extinguish the fire have been unsuccessful, and it is estimated that the fire may continue burning for several more centuries.
