One idea of the ancient Greeks that scientists during the 1500s and 1600s built upon and eventually disproved was the geocentric model of the universe, proposed by Ptolemy. This model believed that the Earth was the center of the universe, with all other celestial bodies orbiting around it. Scientists such as Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, and Johannes Kepler built upon this idea by proposing the heliocentric model of the universe, which placed the Sun at the center with the planets orbiting around it. This ultimately led to the acceptance of the heliocentric model and the rejection of the geocentric model.
