Your school district provides substance use and abuse education to all students in grades K-12. As part of this education, they have asked some older students to create a skit for the middle school students. You’ve been asked to create a skit surrounding a situation in which kids face peer pressure involving drugs and alcohol. Several students stand up to the peer pressure, and they provide information in defense of their decision.

Title: Standing Strong

Characters:
- Sarah: A confident and outspoken middle school student
- Jake: Sarah’s best friend who is supportive and loyal
- Peer 1: A cool and popular student who tries to pressure others into trying drugs or alcohol
- Peer 2 and Peer 3: Friends of Peer 1 who join in on the peer pressure

Scene:
The cafeteria at middle school during lunchtime. Sarah and Jake are sitting at a table chatting and eating. Peer 1, Peer 2, and Peer 3 approach the table.

Peer 1: Hey Sarah and Jake, you guys should come to the party this weekend. We’re gonna have so much fun!

Sarah: Thanks for the invite, but we’re not interested in going to a party where there will be drugs and alcohol.

Peer 2: Oh, come on, don’t be such a buzzkill! Everyone is going to be there, you don’t want to miss out.

Jake: We’re good, thanks. We don’t need drugs or alcohol to have a good time.

Peer 3: Why are you being so square? Just one drink won’t hurt anyone.

Sarah: Actually, it can hurt a lot of people. Did you know that underage drinking can lead to accidents, injuries, and even death? It’s not worth the risk.

Peer 1: Fine, suit yourselves. But you’re missing out on all the fun.

Sarah: We don’t think risking our health and safety is fun. We prefer to make smart choices and stay true to ourselves.

Peer 2 and Peer 3 look unsure and exchange glances.

Jake: Plus, we have plenty of other ways to have fun and make memories that don’t involve drugs or alcohol. Like playing sports, watching movies, or hanging out with friends who respect our decisions.

Peer 1: I guess I never really thought about it like that. Maybe I should rethink my choices too.

Sarah: That’s great to hear. It’s important to surround ourselves with positive influences who support us in making healthy choices.

Peer 1, Peer 2, and Peer 3 nod in agreement and walk away.

Sarah: (to Jake) Thanks for having my back and standing strong against peer pressure. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it in the end.

Jake: Of course, I’ll always have your back. We make a great team.

They high-five each other and continue eating lunch, proud of their decision to stand against peer pressure and make smart choices. The scene fades to black.

End of skit.
