How are algae and polyps related?

Algae and polyps are both part of the same group of organisms called cnidarians. Polyps are typically stationary, sessile organisms that have a cylindrical body with a mouth surrounded by tentacles that they use to capture prey. Algae can often have a symbiotic relationship with polyps, providing them with energy through photosynthesis. This relationship benefits both organisms, with the algae receiving protection and nutrients from the polyp, while the polyp benefits from the energy produced by the algae.
