Egypt made peace with Israel in 1978 because they were exhausted from years of conflict, particularly the costly Yom Kippur War in 1973. Anwar Sadat, the President of Egypt at the time, believed that resolving the conflict with Israel would bring stability and economic benefits to Egypt. Other Arab countries eventually followed Egypt’s example because they saw the benefits of peace, such as increased trade and improved regional stability. Additionally, the Camp David Accords and the subsequent peace treaty between Egypt and Israel set a precedent for Arab-Israeli diplomacy, encouraging other nations to pursue peace as well.
