The Tale of the Ant and the Grasshopper

A. Ghimire

One summer, the grasshopper sang all day and all night. An ant passed by. He was working hard. He dragged an ear of corn to the nest.

"Come with me," the grasshopper said. "Sing with me. Why do you work so hard?"

"I need food for the winter," the ant said. "You should do the same."

"Why worry about winter?" the grasshopper said. "I have food for now."

That winter, only the ant had food. Then, the grasshopper knew he should have listened to the ant. He went to the ant to beg for food.

The Ant and the Grasshopper
W. Cooper

One cold day, an ant was dragging out some corn. He had saved it in summer.

A grasshopper, who was very hungry, saw the ant. He said, “Give me some corn. Save me. I am hungry.”

The ant asked, “What did you do this summer?”

The grasshopper said, “I sang all summer.”

The ant said, “Then dance all winter.”
