Identify an example of an act of resistance by Indigenous peoples' movement in the U.S

One example of an act of resistance by Indigenous peoples' movement in the U.S. is the Occupation of Alcatraz in 1969. A group of Indigenous activists, led by members of the American Indian Movement (AIM), occupied the abandoned federal prison on Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay for 19 months. They demanded the return of the island to Indigenous peoples to establish a center for Native American cultural preservation and education. The occupation called attention to the government's broken treaties with Indigenous peoples and brought national awareness to Indigenous rights issues.
