It all started when Lily's house caught on fire one night. I happened to be walking by when I saw the flames and rushed to help. As I entered the burning building, I heard a familiar voice behind me.
"What are you doing here?" my rival Alex asked, surprise evident in his voice.
"I could ask you the same thing," I retorted, but we both knew that the situation was far more serious than our personal animosities.
We quickly found Lily huddled in a corner, coughing and scared. Without exchanging another word, Alex and I sprang into action, working together to get Lily out of the burning building safely. As we carried her to safety, Lily held onto both of our hands tightly, tears streaming down her face.
Once we were out of harm's way, we sat with Lily and reassured her that everything would be okay. It was in that moment that I saw a different side of Alex – a compassionate and caring side that I never knew existed.
