Theravada Buddhism is the dominant religion in Burma, also known as Myanmar. Therefore, the principal deity is Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. However, there are also a number of nats, or spirits, that are believed to exist in Burmese folk religion. These nats are worshipped and revered alongside the Buddha in Burmese society.
