The pitcher plant has a cup-shaped structure filled with liquid that traps insects for food. It also has slippery walls that make it difficult for insects to escape, and some species have hairs that point downward to prevent prey from climbing out. These adaptions help the pitcher plant to obtain nutrients and survive in the jungle where soil nutrients are scarce.
