Word Bank: Cytoplasm, Ribosome, Mitochondria, Golgi apparatus or body, Lysosome,

Rough ER, Smooth ER, Plasma Membrane, and Nucleus.

Use the word bank and explain where these are located within a cell.

1. Nucleus: Located in the center of the cell, the nucleus contains the genetic material of the cell and controls cell activities.

2. Plasma Membrane: Surrounding the cell, the plasma membrane is a semi-permeable barrier that regulates the passage of materials in and out of the cell.

3. Cytoplasm: Filling the space between the nucleus and the plasma membrane, the cytoplasm is a gel-like substance where organelles are suspended.

4. Mitochondria: Found throughout the cytoplasm, mitochondria are responsible for producing energy in the form of ATP through cellular respiration.

5. Golgi apparatus or body: Located near the nucleus, the Golgi apparatus processes, sorts, and packages proteins and other molecules for transport within or outside the cell.

6. Lysosome: Found throughout the cytoplasm, lysosomes contain enzymes that break down waste materials and cellular debris.

7. Rough ER: Found throughout the cytoplasm, the rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is studded with ribosomes and is involved in protein synthesis and processing.

8. Smooth ER: Also found throughout the cytoplasm, the smooth ER is involved in lipid synthesis, detoxification, and calcium storage.

9. Ribosome: Found attached to the rough ER or floating freely within the cytoplasm, ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis.
