Genotypes and phenotypes are related in that the genotype is the genetic makeup of an organism, while the phenotype is the physical expression of those genes. In other words, the genotype determines the potential traits that an organism can have, while the phenotype is the actual manifestation of those traits. The phenotype is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, but it is always ultimately determined by the genotype.
