What is the chromosome theory of inheritance?

Chromosomes are carried from parents to offspring on hybrids.

Hybrid pairs of chromosomes combine to form offspring.

Genes are carried from parents to offspring on chromosomes.

Codominant genes combine to form new hybrids.

The chromosome theory of inheritance states that genes are carried on chromosomes and are passed from parents to offspring through the process of hybridization. Chromosomes come in pairs, and each parent contributes one of each pair to their offspring. The combination of chromosomes from both parents determines the genetic makeup of the offspring. This theory was proposed by Thomas Hunt Morgan based on his research with fruit flies in the early 20th century.
