What is vaccination

Vaccination is the process of administering a vaccine to an individual to provide immunity against a specific disease. Vaccines contain weakened or inactive forms of a virus or bacteria, or parts of the virus or bacteria, that stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies. These antibodies recognize and attack the disease-causing agent if the person is exposed to it in the future, preventing the individual from getting sick or reducing the severity of the illness. Vaccines have been highly successful in preventing and controlling the spread of infectious diseases.
