At the end of World War I, the Ottoman Empire collapsed. This empire covered the region of Southwest Asia, including modern-day countries such as Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Jordan. After the war, the League of Nations created mandates, which were territories that were to be controlled by European powers until they were ready for self-rule. As a result, these mandates led to the division and artificial creation of borders in Southwest Asia, which has contributed to ongoing conflicts and tensions in the region.
