The Korean War was caused by a combination of factors. Firstly, it was a result of the growing Cold War tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. The division of Korea into North and South after World War II, with the North being under communist rule and the South being supported by the US, further intensified these tensions. Additionally, the North Korean leader, Kim Il-sung, had aspirations of reunifying the country under communist rule, and saw an opportunity to do so when he received support from the Soviet Union and China. The invasion of South Korea by North Korean forces in June 1950 triggered the war.
