Monarch butterflies migrate to the threatened habitat of the oyamel fir forests in Mexico. These forests are located in the mountains of central Mexico, mainly in the states of Michoacán and Mexico. The monarch butterflies travel thousands of miles from their breeding grounds in the United States and Canada to overwinter in these oyamel forests. However, deforestation and illegal logging in these areas have posed a threat to the monarch butterfly's habitat and their ability to survive their long migration.
