Question 1

Photo of a controlled 4 way intersection from the driver’s perspective in the straight lane of a two lane road, at the stop line, attempting to turn left and the overhead traffic signal is a solid green. A blue car is already in the left turn movement halfway through the intersection. The crossroad has vehicles approaching from straight ahead behind their stop line with an assumption of a green traffic signal but direction of straight or turning is undetermined.

A. Imagine YOURSELF as the driver in the picture with the blue car completing the left turn in front of you. List at least two (2) techniques to safely and legally make a left turn in this situation.

B. Describe at least two (2) situations the driver should consider when turning left at this intersection?

Question 2

A. If you encounter a traffic signal, like the one in this photo, explain how the vehicles are legally required to move through this intersection?

B. How would you respond if there was an officer directing traffic?

Question 3

A. Identify at least three indicators that a driver must not turn right at this intersection.

B. What should you do if you mistakenly turned right at this intersection?

Question 4

Low angle exterior photo of two vehicles approaching a 4-way stop intersection perpendicular to each other. The vehicle on the left is stopped at the stop line and the vehicle on the right is still approaching 20 feet from the stop line.

A. With both vehicles pictured approaching this intersection, does car A or B have the right of way?

B. Why?

Question 5

A. Explain the decisions the driver of the first blue car has to make when approaching the roundabout.

B. Explain why the actions from the second blue car are different.

A. For the driver of the first blue car approaching the roundabout, the decisions they have to make include:

1) Determining the appropriate entry lane based on their intended destination within the roundabout.
2) Yielding to any vehicles already in the roundabout and waiting for a safe gap to enter.
3) Maintaining a steady speed and smoothly merging into the flow of traffic within the roundabout.
4) Continuously checking for any pedestrians or cyclists crossing their path before entering and while navigating the roundabout.

B. The actions of the second blue car are different because it is already within the roundabout. The driver has to make decisions regarding:
1) Navigating the roundabout by staying in the appropriate lane for their desired exit.
2) Yielding to any vehicles already in that lane or in the roundabout itself.
3) Continuously checking for any pedestrians or cyclists while transitioning from one lane to another or while exiting the roundabout.
