The bloodiest battle in the American Civil War was the Battle of Gettysburg, which was fought from July 1-3, 1863 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It resulted in an estimated total of 51,000 casualties, including both Union and Confederate forces. Roughly 23,000 Union soldiers and 28,000 Confederate soldiers were either killed, wounded, or captured during the battle.
