How many different species of plants and animals can be found in Costa rica?

Costa Rica is known for its incredible biodiversity, housing a wide variety of plant and animal species. While it is difficult to provide an exact number, as new species are constantly being discovered, it is estimated that Costa Rica is home to around 500,000 plant and animal species. This includes approximately 8,000 species of vascular plants, 1,500 species of trees, 1,600 species of freshwater fish, 220 species of reptiles, 160 species of amphibians, 205 species of mammals, and more than 900 species of birds. Moreover, this number does not include the vast number of insect species that reside in the country.
