One strategy used by Douglas MacArthur during World War II was the concept of "island hopping" in the Pacific theater. Instead of directly attacking heavily fortified Japanese-held islands, MacArthur's strategy involved bypassing some of these islands and targeting those that were strategically important for the Allies. By doing so, MacArthur aimed to quickly capture key islands, establish airbases, and cut off Japanese supply and communication lines. This strategy allowed the Allies to avoid excessive casualties and to gradually move closer to Japan, bringing them within reach for a potential invasion.
