Transformations and Congruence Portfolio

Math 8 Q3 (Pre-Algebra) / Transformations and Congruence

Question 7
With a different color, plot and state the points of your neighbor’s house, which is a
reflection of your house in Chapter 3 over the y-axis. Name the color you use on your graph here.

I will use the color red to plot and state the points of my neighbor's house, which is a reflection of my house over the y-axis.

explain your answer

When we reflect a figure over the y-axis, we essentially flip the figure horizontally. This means that each point in the original figure will have a corresponding point in the reflected figure, but the x-coordinates will have opposite signs.

In this case, if I used a color (let's say blue) to plot and state the points of my own house, I would use a different color (red) to plot and state the corresponding points of my neighbor's house.

For example, if my own house has a point (3, 4), the corresponding point on my neighbor's house after reflecting it over the y-axis would be (-3, 4). Similarly, if my own house has a point (-2, 1), the corresponding point on my neighbor's house would be (2, 1).

By using different colors to plot and state the points, we can clearly distinguish between the original figure and its reflection.

I will use the color red to plot and state the points of my neighbor's house, which is a reflection of my house over the y-axis. This means that each point in my house will have a corresponding point in my neighbor's house, but the x-coordinates will have opposite signs.

For example, if my house has a point (3, 4), the corresponding point on my neighbor's house after reflecting it over the y-axis would be (-3, 4). Similarly, if my house has a point (-2, 1), the corresponding point on my neighbor's house would be (2, 1).

By using a different color, like red, to plot and state my neighbor's house, it becomes easy to distinguish between the original figure and its reflection.
