Agree or Disagree — The power of the government comes from the consent of the governed.

write at least 2 complete sentences for each statement explaining your answer and your opinion.

Agree - The power of the government comes from the consent of the governed because in a democratic society, the citizens have the right to vote and choose their representatives. Through this electoral process, the people are essentially granting authority to those who are elected to govern on their behalf. Additionally, governments rely on the support and cooperation of the people to maintain stability and legitimacy. Without the consent of the governed, governments would lack the necessary support and legitimacy to effectively exercise power.

Disagree - The power of the government does not solely come from the consent of the governed because there are instances where governments impose their authority even without the explicit consent of the people. In authoritarian regimes, for example, power is often maintained through coercion, force, or even through hereditary means, rather than through a genuine consent of the people. Furthermore, in some cases, governments may manipulate or suppress the will of the people through propaganda, manipulation of elections, or restrictions on freedom of speech, thus undermining the notion of consent as the sole source of power.
