What happens to the amount of any reagent that is present in an excess?

When a reagent is present in excess, it means that there is more than enough of that reagent to react completely with the other reactant(s) in the reaction. In this case, the excess reagent will not be fully consumed and will remain unreacted. The amount of excess reagent will diminish over time as it reacts with the other reactant(s), but there will still be some unreacted excess reagent left after the completion of the reaction.
