In this excerpt from The Little Mermaid, the Little Mermaid falls in love with a human prince and desires to become human herself. She visits the Sea Witch and exchanges her voice for a chance to have legs and a human soul. However, the Sea Witch warns her that she will always be in pain and feel as if she is walking on sharp knives. Despite this warning, the Little Mermaid agrees to the deal and the Sea Witch transforms her tail into legs.
