Johannes Baptista van Helmont was not arrested by the Spanish Inquisition. He was a Flemish chemist, physician, and alchemist who lived from 1579 to 1644. He made significant contributions to the field of chemistry, particularly in the understanding of gases and the discovery of carbon dioxide.
