The U.S. decided to use atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in order to quickly and decisively bring an end to World War II, by demonstrating their overwhelming military power and forcing Japan's surrender, which ultimately saved American lives that would have been lost in a potential invasion of Japan.
