What are the two types of nephrons

There are two types of nephrons in the kidneys: cortical nephrons and juxtamedullary nephrons.

1. Cortical nephrons: These nephrons are located mostly in the outer cortex of the kidney. They have a shorter loop of Henle that does not extend deep into the medulla. Cortical nephrons make up about 80-85% of the nephrons in the kidneys.

2. Juxtamedullary nephrons: These nephrons are located near the junction of the cortex and medulla of the kidney. They have a longer loop of Henle that extends deep into the medulla. Juxtamedullary nephrons play a crucial role in producing concentrated urine and regulating water balance in the body. They make up about 15-20% of the nephrons in the kidneys.
