Possible Activities
2 points (each)
· Create 10 multiple choice questions about the novel. These questions must be about things such as the plot, literary terms, or characters of the novel. Please include an answer key. Each question must ask something relevant to the novel and include a minimum of three answer choices.
· Create a crossword puzzle using important vocabulary words from the novel. Consider the words Josh uses in his poems, like patellar tendinitis, hypertension, ironic, and churlish. Include a minimum of 10 words from the novel. Write one hint for determining each word in your puzzle.
4 points (each)
· Recite your favorite poem from the book and make an audio or video recording of you reciting it. After your recitation, briefly explain why you selected that poem as your favorite. Ask your learning coach for help in making your recording.
· Choose what you feel are the five most important quotes from the entire novel. In 2–3 sentences each, explain what the quotes mean and why they are important. (This means you will write a total of 10-15 sentences, 2-3 sentences for each of the five quotes.)
· Submit your character drawing or paragraph you completed in Unit 2, Lesson 2: Character and Conflict. (Draw a picture of Josh or JB OR write a 5-6 sentence paragraph about how you picture Josh or JB based on at least three character traits.)
6 points (each)
· Create a collage with quotes and pictures to support a major theme of The Crossover. The collage should have a minimum of six quotes and six pictures that cover the important events and major characters of the story. This collage should be artistically pleasing, so take your time. You may complete this task by using a computer program or physically assembling a collage. If you create your collage manually, you may scan or take a picture of it to upload it.

· Using the theme work you completed in Unit 4, Lesson 1: Connections in The Crossover, write a song regarding a theme from the novel. Make an audio or video recording of you performing the song followed by a discussion of how your song represents a theme in the novel. The song should identify and explore one theme from the novel and include at least 2 verses. Ask your learning coach for help in making your recording.

· Submit your “Dear Jordan” letter activity from Unit 3, Lesson 2: Conflict in a Verse Novel. (Directions: Draft a letter to someone who you have a relationship with, such as a brother, sister, friend, or caretaker, using the same style as the poem “Dear Jordan.” In a letter with 12-15 lines, identify your relationship to the person you are writing to, what you are asking from this person, and the emotion you feel toward this person.)
