"The Amish"

(1) In this era of high technology, time seems to have stopped in the 18th century for a group of people who live and work with no automobiles, electricity, or television.

(2) There are about 100 Amish settlements in the United States. The largest settlement is found in Pennsylvania, but other groups can be found in twenty-three states and in Canada.

(3) The Amish are of Swiss heritage, and their religious beliefs and customs date back about 500 years.
