In 2011, west Texas endured the second-most severe drought in state history. It left many communities in the region without drinking water. Now, some communities in Texas will try to turn sewage into drinking water. Proponents say that a special extraction method will bring millions of gallons (millions of liters) of water to drier areas of the state. Some Texans, however, are finding the idea of drinking recycled wastewater hard to swallow. To make such water safe to drink, salt and impurities must be removed first. Then, the wastewater is blended with fresh water, cleaned, and tested. It is a process that has been in place for years in parts of Arizona and California. Do It!
