A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon. From Earth, it looks like the Moon is gradually being covered by a dark shadow until it turns completely red or reddish-brown in color. This happens because some sunlight passes through Earth's atmosphere and gets bent towards the Moon, creating a red hue. As the eclipse progresses, the shadow slowly moves away, and the Moon returns to its normal appearance.
