One example of an air mass is a maritime tropical air mass, often abbreviated as mT. This air mass originates over warm water bodies such as the Gulf of Mexico or the Atlantic Ocean near the equator. It is warm and humid, carrying a significant amount of moisture. When this air mass moves over land, it can bring hot and muggy conditions, often associated with thunderstorms or heavy rainfall.
