Change in wind direction in warm fronts

In warm fronts, there is a change in wind direction. Before the warm front approaches, the wind generally comes from the east or northeast direction. As the warm front passes through, the wind direction shifts to south or southwest. This change in wind direction occurs because warm air is replacing the colder air associated with the front. The warm air rises above the cooler air, causing the wind to turn and flow towards the warmer air mass.
