Clouds type in cold front

The types of clouds commonly associated with a cold front include cumulonimbus clouds, which are often associated with severe weather such as thunderstorms and heavy rain; stratocumulus clouds, which are large and low-lying and typically form along the leading edge of a cold front; and nimbostratus clouds, which are thick and dark and often bring prolonged periods of steady rain or snow. Additionally, there may be some altostratus clouds present, which are mid-level clouds that often form ahead of a cold front and can bring overcast conditions and light precipitation.
