Can an A-10 Thunderbolts rounds penetrate a sherman tank?

The A-10 Thunderbolt II, commonly known as the Warthog, is primarily designed as a close air support aircraft rather than an anti-tank platform. However, it is capable of carrying and utilizing a variety of air-to-ground weapons, including the depleted uranium armor-piercing ammunition officially named PGU-14/B API (Armor-Piercing Incendiary).

The A-10's API rounds are specifically designed to penetrate armored targets, including tanks. While it is possible for these rounds to penetrate some parts of a Sherman tank, such as thinner armor sections or less protected areas, they may struggle to penetrate the thickest frontal armor.

It is important to note that the Sherman tank was a World War II-era tank and is significantly less armored compared to modern main battle tanks. Modern tank armor is made of composite materials and reactive armor, which can provide much better protection against ammunition used by the A-10. Therefore, it is unlikely that the A-10's API rounds would be effective against heavily armored modern tanks, but they might have a higher chance of penetration against older tanks like the Sherman.
